100 protestors were arrested yesterday for demanding no more weapons to Israel

Dear Kathryn,

Yesterday, 300 anti-war protestors with Jewish Voice for Peace, Sunrise Movement, Palestinian Youth Movement and 15 other community organizations staged a sit-in at Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand’s offices in New York City. It was the largest civil disobedience since the war on Iran began, with 100 arrested for refusing to leave.

They put their bodies on the line to demand that senators stop weapons sales to Israel and block Trump’s reported $100 billion request for supplemental funding of the U.S.-Israel war.

Support their demands now: Call your senators and demand they vote YES on the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval led by Bernie Sanders to block weapons to Israel.

Despite the announcement of a tentative ceasefire with Iran last week, Israel has continued its relentless ethnic cleansing campaigns in Lebanon and in Palestine. Israel has killed at least 2,000 people in Lebanon since early March, and more than 750 Palestinians in Gaza since the so-called ceasefire in October. As long as Israel continues to enjoy full U.S. military and political backing, it will only escalate its violence and destruction in pursuit of its expansionist agenda.

We must end the deadly U.S.-Israel alliance. That begins with stopping weapons.

This week, Bernie Sanders is expected to force a vote in the Senate on Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) to block weapons sales to Israel. These measures would block 1,000-lb bombs that have been used in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran and bulldozers that Israel has used to demolish homes and forcibly displace millions of people in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.

This is the fourth time since the genocide began that Senator Sanders has introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block weapons sales from the U.S. to Israel. Every time we are able to get new senators to join these measures, it provides tangible evidence that our movement’s power is growing and shifts the political calculus in Washington.

CALL YOUR SENATORS NOW

With Congress back in session, we also expect them to eventually vote on an $80-100 billion supplemental request from the Trump administration to fund the war on Iran. This is an astronomical sum, and will only further entrench us in a war that has plunged the region, and the world, into turmoil and instability.

The outcomes of this week’s vote are critical for future organizing. Votes like these force politicians to go on record so constituents can see if their representatives supported sending weapons to Israel during a genocide, or took steps to block more money for the disastrous U.S.-Iraeli war on Iran. This can be especially important with the upcoming midterm elections.

Contact your Senator and urge them to support the JRDs to stop sending weapons to Israel and oppose any additional funding for the unjust war on Iran. Every call is counted.

The U.S. government should be investing in childcare, healthcare, housing, and food access—not funding war, genocide, and devastation.
