Reporting back from the largest-ever JVP Lobby Day.
For the last five years, we’ve worked to build our Lobby Day program into a formidable force on the Hill. |
In 2024, JVP brought 200 anti-Zionist Jews to Congress to demand our electeds stop arming Israel, a critical step to end the genocide. In 2025, we came back — this time with students from Columbia University — to demand the release of their peer Mahmoud Khalil from ICE detention and call for an end to attacks against anti-Zionist student protestors. This year, 240 of us were there to demand that our members of Congress co-sponsor the Block the Bombs Act – which would stop the most lethal U.S. weapons to Israel – block the latest Trump weapons sale of $2.8b dollars, prevent the deadly merger between the U.S. and Israeli militaries, and vote NO on more funding for war. Just like our membership base, JVP’s Lobby Days are multigenerational and participants come from across the country. The youngest member of JVP on the Hill with us was 16, and the oldest was 84. Members traveled from Seattle, Kansas City, Florida, New York, and more. New members and seasoned organizers alike came together with a shared purpose: show Congress that their own Jewish constituents are demanding that they end U.S. complicity in Israel’s genocide and apartheid. Our advocacy strategies are only successful because they are paired with the broad diversity of organizing tactics across the movement. From boycotts, to divestment campaigns, to protests, to canvassing, to advocacy – we are applying pressure whenever and however we can to stop the flow of U.S. support for genocide. |
Every time we’re in Washington, we hear the same thing: Your opposition is here all the time. |
It’s true. Anti-Palestinian lobby groups like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year to push pro-genocide propaganda and to continue the unconditional flow of U.S. funding and arming of genocide and apartheid, against the will of the vast majority of Americans. We’ve seen how our movement’s pressure yields historic results in Congress, but we still have not accomplished material change. In the last year, an unprecedented 40 Senators voted to block weapons to Israel, and a whopping 104 members of the House voted to halt $3.3 billion in military funding. Two weeks ago, while our people were on Capitol Hill, 47 Senate Democrats — all but one — voted to expose Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. But until we end every dollar of military funding, enact a full arms embargo, and halt all U.S. complicity in apartheid and genocide, we have much more work ahead. Now we need your help. We are making progress, but our work is cut out for us. We need to ensure we can keep bringing our people back to the Hill, as well as continue to engage in a broad diversity of tactics to pressure those in power. Can you help us cover the cost of this year’s Lobby Day, so we can bring even more anti-Zionist Jews to Washington next year? Beth Miller Political Director, JVP |
