Dear Luis, Last night, the U.S. and Israel launched a disastrous and illegal war on Iran – a country of 90 million people. These U.S.-Israel attacks have already wrought devastation across Iran, including a deadly airstrike on a primary school in southern Iran that reportedly killed over 80 people, mostly children. |
The Iranian people are already suffering under a repressive regime and these airstrikes only further endanger Iranians. All so that Trump and Netanyahu can continue to carry out wars, genocide, and authoritarianism. If this war continues, it will bring even more devastation on the people of Iran and across the region. The diverse peoples of Iran have risen up in courage against their government’s brutal oppression for decades, including massive protests over the past two months, against crushing economic hardship and for a future of freedom and democracy. For this, they have faced horrific repression from the Iranian regime, with reports of upwards of 20,000 killed and hundreds of thousands injured or arrested. Now, Trump and Netanyahu are attempting to portray themselves as the protectors of these brave protesters. The opposite is true. The horrifying impact of the U.S. and Israel’s imperialist warmaking, violence, and crippling sanctions have devastated Iran and the region for decades. A U.S.-Israeli war on Iran will only lead to death and violence. The Iranian people, the Palestinian people, and all people of the region and the world should be in control of their own futures — not at the whims of Trump and Netanyahu’s warmongering. |
The House and Senate will likely vote this week to vote on War Powers Resolutions to exert Congress’s authority. It is critical that we force Congress to take action and finally stand up to Trump. That requires mass action now. Act now. No war on Iran. It will take a mass anti-war movement to stop this. But we already know: the overwhelming majority of Americans have no interest in endless wars and genocide, nor in spending billions to fund them.
